Grant Summary:
The First Nations Clean Energy Advice Grants support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and organisations to participate in clean energy development and make informed decisions about clean energy projects and opportunities.

The program forms part of the Australian Government’s First Nations Clean Energy Strategy and aims to ensure First Nations communities have access to the knowledge, expertise and professional support required to engage effectively with the growing clean energy sector.

Funding can help communities build clean energy project skills and knowledge, access technical and professional advice, assess potential clean energy developments and make informed decisions based on the principles of Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC).

The program aims to increase First Nations participation in clean energy projects while strengthening community confidence when engaging with clean energy developers, collaboration with industry, technical knowledge and the ability of communities to secure meaningful benefits from clean energy development.

Eligible applicants include First Nations organisations and groups, including Indigenous corporations and land management organisations, registered land councils, Traditional Owner organisations, native title and land rights entities, incorporated not-for-profit associations and cooperatives, trustees and Australian-based partnerships.

Applicants generally need an Australian Business Number (ABN). First Nations groups without an ABN may still be able to participate through an eligible auspicing organisation that holds an ABN.
