Grant Summary:
The City of Sydney Economic Grants – Innovation and Business Capacity Building program supports projects that strengthen local businesses, build skills and capability, encourage innovation and create opportunities for businesses to connect and collaborate.
Projects can include business training and upskilling programs, pilot projects, testing new approaches, research, advocacy, networking activities and initiatives that strengthen an industry or business sector. Projects that create partnerships, attract investment and contribute to the long-term economic development of the City of Sydney are encouraged.
Funding of up to $50,000 per project per year is available, with multi-year funding available for up to three years. Funding can include up to $10,000 for capital expenditure, and applicants can also request value-in-kind support such as City of Sydney venue hire or street banner pole hire. Applications seeking more than $25,000 must provide matching cash or value-in-kind contributions and meet additional criteria.
Examples include programs supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses, industry research and advocacy, startup and entrepreneurship programs, sustainability pilots, and training that helps businesses develop skills in areas such as AI, digital marketing and emerging technologies.
Eligible applicants include not-for-profit organisations, incorporated associations, co-operatives, corporations, sole traders, trustees, business advocacy organisations, local businesses, industry associations, business collectives and chambers of commerce.
Projects or applicants must operate within the City of Sydney local government area or demonstrate clear benefits for people who live, work or visit the area.
