Grant Summary:
Discovery Indigenous provides funding of $30,000 to $2.5 million to support research projects led by Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander researchers and to strengthen First Nations research capacity within Australian higher education institutions.
The program supports pure basic, strategic basic and applied research and research training across a broad range of disciplines, excluding clinical and other medical research. Projects can involve individual researchers or research teams and may include national and international research collaboration.
A key focus of the program is supporting the retention and development of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander researchers, expanding Australia’s research knowledge and capability, and supporting research that can deliver economic, commercial, environmental, social and cultural benefits.
Applications must be submitted through the Research Office of an eligible organisation identified in the Grant Guidelines. Each application must nominate at least one Chief Investigator (CI) or Discovery Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Award (DAATSIA) candidate. The first-named Chief Investigator must be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander researcher and will lead the project.
