Ideation

Turn your ideas into action. Create real opportunities.

Every business starts with an idea, but turning that idea into something real takes more than inspiration.

First Innovators’ Business Ideation Program helps First Nations people explore, develop, evaluate and validate their business ideas while building the practical skills and confidence to take the next step.

Whether you have the beginning of an idea, are exploring a few different possibilities or have already started something and want to develop it further, the program gives you the tools, support and space to work through your idea and see where it could go.

The program takes participants through the early stages of developing a business, helping them understand what makes a strong idea and how to turn it into a real opportunity.

Participants explore the problem they are solving, who their customers are, what they are offering, how the business could make money and what needs to happen to bring the idea to life.

Importantly, participants also learn how to test and validate their thinking rather than simply assuming an idea will work.

From an Idea to an Opportunity

What We Explore

The program can cover:

Building the Foundations of a Business

Participants work through four important areas:

  1. Business Evaluation & Validation
Understanding your idea, testing whether there is a need and identifying what could make the business work.

  2. Understanding Business
Learning the fundamentals of starting and running a business, making decisions and working through challenges.

  3. Marketing & Promotion
Understanding your customers, developing your message and exploring how to promote your products, services and business.

  4. Business Financials
Building practical knowledge around budgets, sales, costs, pricing, forecasting and the financial requirements of running a business.

Ideas at Different Stages

You do not need to arrive with a fully developed business idea.

Our Business Ideation Program can support people who are starting with an idea, exploring whether business is right for them, developing an early stage business or looking at a new product, service or opportunity within an existing business.

Our goal is to give people practical tools and support to develop their ideas and businesses, whatever stage they are at.

The Business Ideation Program is for First Nations people who want to explore business, develop an idea or take an early stage business further.

Participants might have the beginning of an idea, several ideas they want to explore, an early stage business they want to strengthen, or simply an interest in learning more about entrepreneurship and what might be possible.

No fully developed business idea is required. The program is about creating the space to explore, test, learn and build.

Programs can also be tailored for different groups, communities and levels of business experience, including young people, emerging entrepreneurs and people exploring business for the first time.

Who Is the Program For?

Great businesses often start with someone being given the opportunity to explore an idea.

First Innovators works with communities, organisations, businesses, government and funders to create Business Ideation Programs that give First Nations people the skills, support and connections to develop their ideas and explore what is possible.

Programs can be tailored around your community, participants and local opportunities, from introducing people to business for the first time through to helping emerging entrepreneurs test and develop their ideas.
